History[edit]
In November 2001 Marc Simoncini started Meetic as a dating website.[1] It became publicly quoted in October 2005.
Match is a part of the Match Group, which also owns Ourtime and Meetic. You may purchase a Pass, giving you access to the features included in that specific Pass. Beyond the initial term, your Pass will be automatically renewed with the same conditions as the Pass you originally chose and at the full (non discounted) price.
- Match.com operates some of the leading subscription-based online dating sites in 25 countries, in eight languages and spanning five continents, as well as oversees its ongoing investment in Meetic. Match.com also powers online dating on MSN across Asia, Australia, the United States and Latin America. Match.com is an operating business of IAC.
- Meetic purchased Match European operations in 2009 for €5 million and a 27% interest in the company, according to Online Personals Watch. WhiteLabelDating Co-Founder Ross Williams told Mark Brooks in an article: “There was a clause in the announcement that didn’t make many of the headlines, but I think will tell you the direction IAC is.
In 2007, according to JupiterResearch, Meetic was the largest online dating service in Europe. The service had 525,000 subscribers in 2007.[2] The service's slogan was 'Same game, new rules.'[3]
In February 2009, the company acquired the European activities of Match.com and grew to more than 30 million subscribers.[4]
In December 2012, the Meetic Group bought Massive Media, the parent company of Twoo.com.[5][6]
In 2013 Meetic was acquired by IAC and thus became a part of the leading Match Group.[7] In December, Meetic launched a new product: the Stepout application where people can find out who likes them nearby.
